Review: Comic Mischief - Tuesday Nights (EP)
‘Under The Rug’
sees the band returning to one of their earlier songs that was originally
released in 2024 as a single and later included on their debut full length
titled ‘E For Everything So Far’. Again, this live version brings a new energy
to the song and is a testament to how far the band has come. I booked what I
believe to be the band’s first public appearance back in 2023. I loved what
they did from the start, but it’s been really cool to see the band progress as
a live act over the last 3 years. After using pre-recorded drum tracks for
their performances, they added a live drummer last year. He’s a great addition
to their sound and has added a lot to the songs they had already released
before he joined.
The next track, ‘9:15’, is a noisy jam-type effort that may be my favorite on the EP. The frantic drumming and purposefully sloppy guitar towards the 3:45 mark is exactly what I love about off-kilter indie rock groups like this. Again, these raw vocals are really making the songs for me. Finally, the record’s closer, ‘Baked Ziti’, is one of two songs I recorded/produced for the band to include on the split EP they released with my band, Lighthouse. When we recorded the original version of this track in my basement back in May of 2025, it was the first time I’d ever heard it. They delivered a solid performance that day, but when I caught a Comic Mischief live set a few weeks later, this jammy, noisy rendition immediately had me hooked on the song. That energy was recaptured on this version they chose to close ‘Tuesday Nights’ with. If you like emo-ish pop indie rock, do yourself a favor and check this EP out immediately.
