GAD! Zine Issue 6

In theory, this site was originally supposed to supplement the print version of the GAD! Zine and maybe even surpass it. With the immediacy of the INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY, how could it not?

    I dunno, but it hasn't.

I still hope to one day offer crap-tons of content to this page, things that are just too of-the-moment to wait and put out in a physical zine a month or three late. IN THE FUTURE, maybe, kinda, this page will offer cool and interesting content on a regular basis. Perhaps DAILY?? We'll see. But in the meantime, I figure we can at least share the back issues of GAD! (and maybe some of our other zines) here. We also plan to make every issue available in PDF format, just not today.

Below, you will find the fifth issue of GAD!, an Alabama-based underground zine. Every issue is a raw disaster made with lots of love.

Still on a roll after the first five, GAD! Zine Issue 6 was glowing with excitement from recent local shows, two of which occurred on the same night in Huntsville. No doubt, every performance mentioned in this issue influenced some other artist in a positive way. Scenes have their ebbs and flows, but the Summer of 2014 was certainly a blast. Check out Samantha Mayhem's photography for Alabama Sharp's Punk Rock Saved My Life event! But then there's all this other stuff! From the Yaoi Manga Spotlight by Darlene Vile (the issue's cover ghoul) to The Bloody Muffs' Bryan Defiance reviewing New York pizza to Russian artist Vitaly Maklakov's classic collage work, this issue was PACKED with ideas beyond the realm of just punk rock! That's not counting the reviews and poems. Kinda forgot how cool this issue is. It is also the first issue to feature The Alabama Underground Music Directory, a helpful guide to current underground music in Alabama. I'm including the original version so folks can see how much it's grown and and so we can reminisce about bands long gone. And hey, at least some of the pages have numbers... Oh yeah, the interviews are really good here too. Check 'em out!:

Gideon's Daniel McCartney interviewed by Kevin Spann

Southern Withdrawal interviewed by Kolbey Freeman

Scary Cherry And The Bang Bangs' Minx The Jinx interviewed by Johnny Crash
