Alabama Sharp Interviews Adam Harmless

Image
Alabama punk rock pioneer/legend Alabama Sharp (The Knockabouts, Monster God, The Go-Go Killers) interviewed Tiger Helicide and GAD! Zine founder Adam Harmless for GAD! issue 25. Both continue to do their part in keeping underground music alive in the state. ALABAMA SHARP: Good sir Mr. Harmless, tell me about yourself.... ADAM HARMLESS: I'm an artist from the Gadsden, AL area. I've got a couple of punk rock bands going, Tiger Helicide and Hot For Creature. I've had some other bands and solo noise projects over the years as well. I've also been known to put together zines with my friends. SHARP: Gadsden, Alabama. Tell me a little about that place. Did you grow up there? HARMLESS: I was born in Gadsden, but moved away when I was about five. I mostly grew up in Pell City. A weird place. Gadsden is weird, but Pell City just seemed.... Anyway, I grew up there and moved to Jacksonville to go to college. Spent about 7 years in college (almost made it to junior!). Met my ...

Review: Them Dirty Roses - "Good Life" single

Image
This GADsden band is more of a Nashville band lately, and that makes sense to this writer. They do country-fried rock that makes you jump out of your chair and put your fist in the air. Songs like "Good Life" are a good example. Makes me miss my motorcycle, because Them Dirty Roses are what riding sounds like in my heart. Just some raw dirty loud rock. I love it all, but that is some damn good guitar. TDR are the modern hollering of classic rock. They get it, and you should, too. -Ram Blon  Them Dirty Roses on Facebook ! Them Dirty Roses on Spotify ! P.S.: Them Dirty Roses will be playing at Chestnut Station in Gadsden, AL on Friday November 26, 2021. Hometown Show!

Review: Genki Genki Panic - The Munge

Image
I first interviewed Genki Genki Panic in 2017. It’s been 4 years and they’ve aged like a fine Transylvanian wine, fermenting and perfecting the spooky craft of what front man Project Bat has coined, Dungeon Surf. When we spoke 4 years ago, I asked if GGP would ever add vocals. “If vocals are meant to happen, they’ll happen.” And as fate would have it, vocals were added through their recently released Spookonia/Spookerboxx EP. My favorite of which was “I Was A Teenage Were-C.H.U.D.” The vocals are a perfect marriage of The Deadly Ones meet Jack Skellington. Definitely check it out.      This, however is a review for their most recently released 3 song EP, The Munge. First up is " The Munge Parasito " . Wait I’ve heard this before! Oh, but not like this you haven’t! " The Munge ..." has been re-recorded and at a very high quality. I’ve always loved this song, but this version is punchier, sandier, and much dungeonier than the previous version - just ...

In The Mouth of GAD!ness

Image
It's been since June of last year that we last posted an article to this site. Long ass time, considering this is supposed to not only accentuate what we do with the GAD! Zine, but also give so much more. And often. OOPS.     For anyone else, who isn't crippled by depression or the actual disease, a pandemic-induced shutdown might be a golden opportunity to create. Or at least post a lotta shit online. Well, somehow, I ended up at work more. Ate into my "play time". When I'm not at work, I try to spend more time with my family. Besides that, my motivation has been totally shot. Not the motivation to create, but to be involved with "the scene(s), maaaan".      I have so many dear friends in the community, but we all land on so many different perspectives. I can put mild political differences aside (not all artists are great at world views or understanding the world in general), but some, thankfully not many, got caught up in conspiracies.... a...
